The United Nations Special Adviser on the Prevention of Genocide, Adama Dieng, endorsed the ruling of the Extraordinary Chambers in the Courts of Cambodia, convicting former Khmer Rouge leaders, Nuon Chea and Khieu Samphan for the crimes of genocide, crimes against humanity, and grave breaches of the 1949 Geneva Conventions. The Special Adviser noted that the ruling reaffirms a commitment to end impunity for atrocity crimes.
